Monroe volleyball held its pink out game at Ida High School Thursday Oct. 24. The volleyball teams raised money from selling shirts and part of the entrance fee was donated to help find the cure for breast cancer. The Monroe varsity, junior varsity, and freshman volleyball teams all competed against the Ida teams, all ending differently.
The freshman volleyball team lost the match against Ida’s volleyball team. The girls won one set against Ida, losing the other two sets, with Monroe receiving a loss for the game. Junior varsity only played two sets against Ida winning the first two sets, ending the overall match after two. The team beat Ida in the first two sets and, because the girls played the best of three, there was no need to continue to a third game due to the first two wins by Monroe.
Monroe varsity’s team was the last of the teams to play, and the team played a best of five series. The girls went out and dropped the first two sets starting the best of five series 2-0. Having to win three straight to win the overall match, they then took control by winning the next two games leading into the final set that decided the game. The varsity team went out for the final pink out game two and two but was still able to push past Ida to win the match. Ending the pink out games in dramatic fashion with a comeback of winning three straight games after starting two down, the game came down to the wire and ended in excitement.
