For some people, being nominated for court is a high school dream. When senior Brett Goodman found out he was nominated, he found it more amusing.
“I laughed and said ‘this should be fun,’” admitted Goodman about how he felt when he was nominated.
Goodman may be considered every parent’s dream. Along with five others, he is number one in the senior class ranking and has received a full-ride scholarship to Central Michigan University. He is also an active part of Monroe High’s marching band, jazz band, and wind ensemble.
Goodman said he would like to continue his musical career throughout college and plans to become amusic major. He said he plans to use his skills to become a band director, starting from high school and then moving on to direct for colleges.
Goodman doesn’t only dedicate his life to academics and music, although he claims it takes up a large portion of his time. When he’s free, however, Goodman said he enjoys reading and said it’s very important to him.
“Whenever someone tells me that they hate reading,” said Goodman, “I die a little inside because I can’t imagine not being able to escape into the world of books.”
Goodman also says he enjoys spending weekends with his friends, staying up late, and having movie marathons. Disney classics are popular on nights like these, and Christopher Nolan’s Inception is a recurring film choice.
Another one of Goodman’s proud achievements this year is his spot he received in the All-State band, competing against 70 other saxophone players for one of the six spots. This is where Goodman will be the night of the Winterfest game, so if you’re planning on seeing Goodman during halftime, expect something a bit more two-dimensional.
While a lot of candidates on court may splurge on their outfits, Goodman chose a more responsible approach. “I was thinking about taking a picture of myself in a giant size on individual sheets, and I figure if I just tape them onto cardboard and then physically cut it out it’d be a lot cheaper than buying a hundred dollar actual cardboard cut-out,” said Goodman about his halftime appearance.
