Even with rain pouring down, the Trojans took home their fifth win at the away game last Friday against Ann Arbor Huron.
With nearly one minute left of the game, senior Alec Stewart managed to make it to the end zone scoring a final touchdown, leaving Monroe the victor with a score of 40-25.
The game had a quick start as senior Gaetano Paolino ran the ball for a Trojan touchdown. The Huron River Rats quickly caught up, but they were no match for the Trojans.
By half-time, Monroe had a 26-7 lead on Ann Arbor Huron. The night grew colder and the rain poured harder as the game went on, Trojan fans waited patiently for halftime to come to an end.
The third quarter arrived and the Trojans rushed back out to the field to finish off the River Rats. Ann Arbor began to catch up, but not for long.
As Monroe’s defense grew stronger throughout the fourth quarter, Ann Arbor Huron’s offense also grew stronger. The game became intense as Huron scored a touchdown with six minutes left of the fourth. Now the score being 34-19, Monroe stayed together as a team to make sure the River Rats weren’t walking off the field with this victory.
With four minutes left of the fourth, Monroe was up by nine points making the score 34-25. Monroe hustled to keep Ann Arbor Huron from gaining any more points on us. Stewart’s touchdown locked in the win as the game finished up and the clock stopped. With the rain falling and the fans cheering, Monroe now left with a record of 5-0.
The next game to be played is a home game, Friday, Sept. 28 against Saline. This game is holding a theme called the “Neon Out,” where fans will wear bright colors to show support to the Monroe Trojans. If the almighty Trojans earn this sixth win, they are automatically going to the 2012 playoffs.
