The Trojans showed no mercy Friday evening at their homecoming game verse the Fordson Tractors. The Trojans all came focused and ready to play to hoping to help their chances for playoffs. The score was 7-7 after the first half, and even after an eventful halftime show of the announcements of homecoming court and the playing of the Monroe High Marching Band, the Trojans never lost focus. The Trojans took a lead after the second half and held it firmly with a score of 21-7. Junior Jacob Nadeau rushed for three touchdowns and 136 yards for the night.
“Our defense was a big key,” senior captain, Nick Perham stated. He continued to explain that without the defense working as hard as they did, taking the Tractors three and out, forcing them to punt the ball on the first drive out of halftime wouldn’t have happened. Two key players on defense were Kevin Cameron and Kenneth Sloss who both had interceptions that evening, but the defensive line itself lead the team to its final league victory.
The Trojans ended the league season with a 7-2 record, but as Perham reminded, “It’s only the beginning. We all have to leave everything from the past weeks in the past and focus on nothing but getting through this first playoff game against our biggest competition—Drake Johnson.”
He went on to say insist that practice was focused and tense all week long coming up to homecoming week, but if they all thought practices were harder before, they would all be would wanting them back after the week of practices awaiting them.
With all Monroe County rooting for the victory on Friday against Pioneer and quarterback Drake Johnson, Monroe High football is being driven everyday by motivation and determination.
