The Monroe High Girls Volleyball team finished up a challenging season winning its Senior Night Game against Bedford at home on Oct. 20. That leaves their season record at 2 wins and 9 losses.
The Bedford tournament will take place on October 29 and if they do indeed go to districts, the team will play November 1, 3, and 5.
When asked how the season was going, Coach Corey Ness said, “We had a lot of leaders last year so this year we are rebuilding. “ She also spoke of her expectations for the rest of the season. “Bedford will be our last tournament, it will be tough but if all goes well, we should be in districts.”
Captain Samantha Waltz agrees with Ness as she said, “I expect us to go into finals for districts and we’re going to face Bedford if we make it there so that would be a great game.” When asked what she would do to improve Waltz said, “I think we just need to stay positive and keep encouraging each other and bringing the best out of each of us to make a strong team. “
Though the team lost a few of its power players this year, a few girls still stand out. Freshman, Christine Tylutki leads with the highest aces and assists for the season. Senior, Jordan Strauss also plays hard, getting 205 kills so far. And sophomore, Alex Stein, has the highest number of digs on the team with 464.
On October 1 at the Ida Invite, the girls played well as they defeated Dundee, tied Gross Ile, but lost to Tecumseh and Riverview. The girls played their best against Ann Arbor Pioneer, but Pioneer eventually won all three sets.
