The Class of 2017 held the annual Talent Show on April 7. The show consisted of 19 acts and was emceed by Monroe High School’s new assistant principal, Michael Foley. The night kicked off at 6pm with a full house of supportive students and family members.

Students showcased their best talents through dancing, singing, comedic martial arts, and the playing of different instruments. Throughout the show, Foley kept the crowd entertained with jokes and stories. This made the audience feel involved as well as giving them a good laugh.

After all of the acts performed, the judges, language arts teachers Jessie Hieber, Jeremy Kimberlin, and Travis Trombley consulted on who would be the winners.

In third place, there was a tie between two musicians, junior Ayden Mendez who sang “Lost Boy” and sophomore Cody Whaley who sang “Running.” In second place came the trio of sophomores Luis Campos and Jessica Hutson and freshman Daija Pendleton who sang and danced to “When I Was Your Man.” In first place came senior Emoni Lee who sang “When We Were Young.”

“I honestly thought I didn’t place,” Lee said. “When they called out third and second I got upset, but once they called my name I was so excited I couldn’t stop running around.”

Emoni also placed third her sophomore year.

“I had a lot of fun, and it was really emotional. I’m so sad this is my last time doing the show,” Lee said.

The show ended in a big success and the proceeds will help benefit the Class of 2017’s prom.
