A former NCAA collegiate athlete and an experienced educator of 17 years, Michael Foley, is now our new assistant principal at Monroe High School.

In 1994, Foley received an athletic scholarship to play basketball at Wayne State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English from WSU and his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Madonna University. Foley was previously the principal at Nexus Academy of Royal Oak. He was also an English teacher and varsity basketball coach at Lincoln High School in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Foley said he is looking forward to connecting, engaging, relating, and educating students.

“I love working with and helping kids. I have always been a firm believer in investing in people instead of money and my reward from this is that my students achieve everything that they want to achieve and becoming great,” Foley said.

Helping students succeed is what he said he would like to accomplish here at MHS.

“By talking to and meeting with students, hearing their needs and assisting them in that process, I would like to help develop students personally and help them reach the goals that they would like to reach,” Foley said.

Foley said he personally developed through mentorship, service, and continuous lifelong learning.

“The type of person that I am would fit very good into this type of school,” Foley said.

Many of Foley’s family members are Monroe High School graduates.

“I’m very familiar with the community; I used to visit Monroe all the time, so I’m very familiar with the culture and how the community is,” Foley said.

Every new staff member and student brings a unique perspective to the table. For Foley, “If your habits don’t match your dreams, you either have to change your habits or change your dreams.” This has been something he’s lived by and hopes to continue living by here at MHS.
