Monroe High School’s very own Hope’s Closet is expanding. The original advisor of Hope’s closet, Sara Hoke, has recently stepped down due to not being able to dedicate as much time to it as it deserves.

Now Jamila Clark, Ellen Ivey, and Brenda Woolard have taken it over and are also changing the name to MHS Caring Closet. They decided to do this because of the freshmen TFTs and MCOP donating non-perishable food. Now students will be able to receive clothing, toiletries, food and other miscellaneous items. They wanted a name that ties everything together instead of just calling it a clothing closet.

The advisors also have bigger plans for the Caring Closet in the works. They are trying to set a time each week that an adult could be in there for students to freely come look around. They are also looking into opening it during TFT each week, which will allow for more time to bring students in.

It is asked that you follow the guidelines strictly; Woolard asks of all donators: “Please do not bring in bags of torn-unwearable clothing, including clothes that wouldn’t fit or appeal to a teenager.”

Any student is allowed to visit the closet in D227 as long as an adult is present. Students can go to the counseling office at any time and ask to visit the closet and everything is confidential. Every item is first come first serve, and if there’s anything that a student needs that is not in the closet, one can ask an advisor for help.
