The MHS Spring Pops Concert was, as usual, a hit. The concert took place in the auditorium on the evening of May 24. All six of the talented choirs here at MHS were featured in this final concert: Mixed Chorus, Concert Choir, MHS Expressions, Generations of Sound, Momentum, and Barbershop Choir. The different groups, although they vary in style, all sang different pop songs from the past and today.

The concert was very much student-run. Many of the songs and all of the choreography was done by MHS choir students.

Senior Brittnee Avritt organized the Barbershop Choir’s performance of “This is Gospel” by Panic! At The Disco. The performance was a cappella and blended together perfectly. Avritt is a part of Mixed Chorus, Barbershop Choir, Generations of Sound, and Momentum.

The choreography was done by 10 incredibly talented choir students: Taylor Cochran, Michaela Foulkrod, Kennedi Kane, Jessica Lee, Peyton Moran, Haley Langmeyer, Joee Nicols, Alexis Cowell, Keegan Pilgrim, and Britney Punches.

“It was really fun; like it’s good to have the responsibility and to get ideas from people,” sophomore Joee Nicols said of working on the choreography. Nicols is a part of MHS Expressions and Momentum. She was very involved in the concert as a whole and even was featured as a soloist in “Girls’ Sing Off.”

“Girls’ Sing Off” was a favorite of many choir students including sophomore Corinne Cadle. Cadle is a part of MHS Expressions, the all-girls choir, and was also heavily involved in the concert. She had the opening solo in “Rumour Has It/Someone Like You” and set the tone for a truly beautiful piece.

“It was fun, I felt confident when I sang it on stage versus when we were just practicing,” said Cadle of her solo.

This was the last choir concert of the year and the seniors’ final concert ever as a part of MHS’s choirs. Junior Serina Jackson, who is a part of Generations of Sound and Momentum, said she really enjoyed the concert as a whole.

“It makes me happy that this is our final concert because everything this year was really successful, but it makes me sad because this is the end of the year and we’re never going to see some of these people again,” Jackson said.

From an audience member’s perspective and a choir member’s perspective, the concert was a fantastic success. The seniors said they were lucky to have been a part of such an amazing group.
