April snow showers bring May flowers

We just started the infamous rainy month of April but lately it feels like we are still stuck in January. With spring break coming to a close, everyone expects April showers and May flowers, but unfortunately this year, that’s not the case; we are instead experiencing January snow. Over the past two weeks, Michigan has had temperatures ranging as low as 25 degrees to a high of 45 degrees, unseasonably low for this time of year.

As a high school students slowly approach the end of the school year, it feels like the weather effects everything from mood to grades and life outside of school. Everyone can agree that we want the warm weather we are promised every year. It’s understandable that snow can fall into the early weeks of March, but snow falling in the first couple of days in April is unacceptable and not fair. Students around Monroe High School just want to ditch the fur coats and boots and trade it in for some sandals and dresses.

Senior Kelsey Pabin said, “I am tired of it being cold and I am ready for it to feel like summer. I love the snow in the winter but in the spring it makes me sad knowing I can’t feel the sun. ” The average temperature for April 2015 was 59 degrees whereas this year it is 36 degrees.

Senior Zoe Geftos spent her spring break in Cancun, Mexico and she said that when she returned home it was snowing in Monroe. “I spent the past week in 88 degree weather where it was sunny and when I got home, it was like 35 degrees and snowing. It made me want to go back to Mexico.”

“My favorite outfits are my summer and spring outfits so I just want to be able to wear them. One day it will be like 50 degrees and I will wear no jacket and then the next day its 26 degrees when I wake up and I’m back to sweaters and boots. It gets very annoying,” senior Kobi Hayter said.

With the weather being as cold as it is, we are all hoping that in the next couple of weeks, the cold weather will be no more. June is in just two months and if it snowing in June, we should pack up all our things and move to Cali.
