Monroe High and SMCC competed this past week to see who could gather the most items to put into “Blessing Bags” that will be given to the homeless this holiday season.

The TFTs at MHS came together to help collect the items from the students that helped participate in the competition.

The event started on Nov. 9 and ended on Nov. 14 at Noon. The Interact Club collected all the items to gather into bags.

The club will have a team stuffing day so that all of the kids in the group can get together to help stuff the Blessing Bags with the items they collected.

“The teams collect the materials and get together to put the bags together,” said Sue Jones, the club advisor.

The Interact Club provides pens and journals for the homeless that say “your story matters.”

“Their homeless story is important to us,” said Jones.

Some kids at MHS were asked a few questions on how they feel about the whole event that went on this past week.

“It’s a excellent idea, because there are a lot of people who are struggling and deserve to have the things they need,” said Yeary.

Blevins also feels that the event was a very good and helpful idea.

“I think it’s great that there are people out there who are willing to help those in need,” said Blevins.

The Interact Club plans on having other events in the future similar to the Blessings Bag, including the annual Chill Out.

“The Chill Out will raise money for the homeless network,” said Jones.

Jones said she always wanted to help out the community and to get involved with clubs and other events.

“I did Interact Club for eight years, always wanted to get involved with community service,” said Jones.

She also said the club has impacted Jones life and keeps her very busy.

“It keeps me busy by doing a lot of things,” said Jones.

Jones does not run the club by herself; she said she gets help from Deb Foster when she is busy with other things.
