Dream 97.5 FM radio has been broadcasting for Monroe High School hockey and girls and boys basketball games this winter season. The station will be broadcasting a total of 12 sporting events for MHS from January through February.
The 97.5 radio station plays a variety of 80s and 90s music and is run by Monroe County Community College students who take radio as a class taught by Milward Beaudry, an instructor at MCCC. The class gives college students a chance to experience and immerse themselves in the operations of a real radio station.
97.5 Dream radio is locally licensed to Monroe, giving each student a voice in their community. The station will broadcast back to back girls and boys basketball games on Feb. 4 and the much anticipated hockey game between MHS and SMCC on Saturday, Feb. 26. The show will air at 7 p.m. with Bobb Vergiels, except for the Feb. 4 girls’ game, which starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys’ game. 97.5 Dream radio first aired on Jan. 11. The next game will be on Jan. 21 with the MHS girls basketball team versus Saline. For the full game schedule, go to the Monroe Public Schools website, www.monroe.k12.mi.us. If you are a student at Monroe High looking to help announce at the hockey or basketball games, contact Bobb Vergiels, spokesmen for the station, at the administration building.
