Monroe High’s media center is going to undergo some major changes within the next year. There have been many rumors flying throughout the school about what is going to happen. Some say there’s going to be a coffee bar, while others say they’re taking all of the books away, but nothing has been set in stone quite yet. Principal Valerie Orr, media specialist Mary Bullard and assistant principal Jessica Shultz are teaming up to create the best plan to change the media center.
“Over the summer we want to get this done. We’ll be putting some comfy couches and chairs in, and we’ve been talking about putting a coffee shop in the back room. If we do decide to do that, it will not happen over the summer; it would take at least a year,” said Bullard.
Orr said that this is now going to be called the “learning center.”
You won’t be able to check books out anymore but there will be a few bookshelves with some books that you can take, read, and return.
Some students think that the change is good for the media center. “I think it’s going to be exciting, more like the high schools on TV,” Sophomore Katelynn Britton said.
Others said they love to read and would like to be able to come in and have a huge collection of books from which to choose.
Freshman Arianna Bunch said “I don’t think I’ll like the changes because I like to pick out books from the media center.”
With mixed feelings about the upcoming changes to the media center, students and staff will just have to wait in anticipation to see how it all turns out.
