Junior Amy Smith has been nothing but busy since her freshman year. Involved in indoor and outdoor soccer, travel soccer, S-Club, Pep Club, Student Council, treasurer of Trojan Unified, Younglife and being the Junior class president, Smith has always had something to do.
“Being a part of teams and getting involved in school is the best way I feel to spend high school. I’ve made some incredible memories I will carry with me forever,” said Smith.
Being on court has kind of become a tradition run through the family for Smith.
“I’m so excited to be on court. My mom, grandma and sister were all on court in high school. So, that makes this that much more special,” said Smith.
Most of the unforgettable memories made at Monroe High have been made with the person who inspires her the most –science teacher Russell Columbus. Columbus also the girls’ soccer coach.
“Mr. Columbus has his life figured out. He’s someone I can go to for everything. He gives the best advice and I know I can always count on him,” said Smith. “He would give up anything for our team.”
Besides Columbus, Smith also looks up to God and her family.
“The most important thing in life to me is definitely God, my family and everyone close to me. I don’t know where I would be today without them.”
After graduation Smith has big plans to attend Hope College; the field she plans to go into is still undecided.
“My career is undecided but I would love to study something in Australia,” said Smith.
