On May 17, MHS hosted a Senior Awards Night to honor the many accomplishments of its graduating class.

The ceremony began at 7 p.m. with a performance by the MHS orchestra and choir. It was held in the auditorium.

The evening presented awards and scholarships to over 200 students, one of whom was senior Zachary Jenkins. He received the Reserve Officer Training Corps, or ROTC, scholarship , which covers the cost of his last three years of college in full.

“It puts me on the track that I need to be on to achieve all of my future aspirations,” Jenkins said on what the scholarship means to him.

The students were not the only ones receiving awards at the ceremony. An Outstanding Educator Award was also presented by the Senior Scholars to three MHS teachers that were voted on by the senior class.

The three awards were given to Katelynn Martin, Scott McCloskey, and Robert Wood. Each teacher had two Scholars present the award directly to them.

Grant Prater and Curtis Jewell presented the award to McCloskey.

“He is such a great influence on me, and I have learned so much in his class,” Prater said on why he chose to nominate McCloskey for the award. ”He really is in it for the right reasons.”.

“I have learned so much from everything he has taught us, I felt he deserved it,” Jewell said.

As for McCloskey himself, he did not know that he would be receiving the award before the ceremony, but said he felt great about receiving it.

“I liked that the whole class voted; it was everyone, and that is very cool. It’s an honor,” McCloskey said.
