One of Monroe High’s very own has decided that he wants to dedicate himself to the Armed Forces after high school. In return for his services, the Army has given senior Eric Custer a full-ride scholarship to any college of his choice that he can be accepted into after he is done serving.

Custer is joining the Army with intentions of furthering his education and going to college after he’s done serving.

“I’ll probably spend about three years and then if I like it I might go back,” Custer said.

The giant scholarship check Custer received on Sept. 28, 2016, was written for $111,248, which is what tuition would be for Custer to attend the University of Michigan, although he still has the option to attend any other college he can be accepted to with a full-ride.

Custer said he wishes to attend MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or some high level college with hopes of being accepted. One of Custer’s other college choices will be the University of Toledo.

Custer was given the scholarship by staff sergeant Michael Hayes, accompanied by his parents, Tina and Bob Custer.
