Every year, Monroe High faculty/administration puts on an exciting event for seniors who are awarded for their academic accomplishments. The event was held this year in the auditorium on May 18 at 7 p.m.

Before the event began, the Mothers’ Club had appetizers consisting of cheese and crackers, cookies, fruit punch and water. The event went very smoothly and the parents were very proud of their graduating seniors.

This event is the first formal event for seniors before graduation. Students who have upheld a 3.0 GPA throughout high school were invited to the event.

“I had a lot of fun at this event and I was very happy that I was invited to this, it was also nice to be with all of my friends,” said senior Trisha Monday.

During the first part of the ceremony, Principal Sandy Kreps introduced all of the seniors who were invited and said how proud she was. There were many special guests there such as teachers who have made an impact on students and Superintendent Barry Martin. Retired assistant principal Kim Diven introduced the senior scholars and Summa Cum Laudes. The rest of the seniors were then introduced one by one.

“Personally, I did not like how long it took for all of the senior scholars to be announced, but other than that it was a great experience,” said senior Marco Knezevich.

During the evening, each summa picked a person to whom they gave an award. Most chose a parent, teacher or coach that inspired them along their paths. The Driving Force awards were also given to teachers who have made an impact by the senior scholars as a group. Scott McCloskey, Eric Rausch and Doug Schade were the recipients of those awards.

Overall, the event was very fun for all seniors. Families were able to witness and be proud of their seniors and all of their accomplishments.
