Varsity volleyball moves on to regional quarterfinals

Monroe varsity volleyball killed it this weekend and are the 2015 district champs, moving onto the regional quarterfinals this Tuesday at Gibraltar Carlson where they will face Livonia Churchill at 7 p.m.

 

Coached by Kim Windham and Erica Back, varsity played Bedford Nov. 7 in their final round of districts.

“Winning districts would meant everything, especially since it was against Bedford and we’re seniors so it’s our last chance to make an impact,” Brianna Brown and Anna Tartarian said.

 

Trojans won the 1st set with an amazing score of 30-28. The set finished with a score of 25-18 due to a missed serve by Bedford. The 3rd set was all or nothing and the Trojans gave it everything the had.

 

The teams had an amazing volley when the score was at 18-14 and an amazing kill from sophomore, Lexi Leone ended it making the score 19-14 Monroe. Trojans still were in the lead and another consecutive kill was made from Brown  to make it 23-17.

 

Brown finished with 11 kills. Sophomore and varsity setter Chloe West had 45 assists. Tartarian and senior Haleigh Harris had 23 digs each.

 

Varsity beat Ypsilanti Nov. 4 at home in the first round of districts. In the first set they started off great with a score of 9-0 and finished with a score of 25-4 Monroe. The 2nd set finished with a score of 25-4 as well and 25-7 in the 3rd set.

 

Leone and Tartarian had a total of 23 kills combined, West had a total of 44 assists and Harris had 22 digs from their game against Ypsilanti.
