Monroe Baseball season is in full swing once again. After announcing a roster of 16 and practicing hard for more than a month, the varsity baseball team is off to a great start.
The team won seven games so far in the season, but has had some rough losses as well.
“It felt really good when we win,” junior Adam Poley said. “We have to get our heads straight and refocus.”
Varsity coach John Hedglen said he is excited about the season and the talent on his team.
“I want us to compete every single game this season. We have a lot of senior leadership from Kevin Suttles, Bronson Warren and Gage Vanwassehnova. We’re counting on the juniors to step up and get ready for a varsity competition,” Hedglen said.
The players are also eager to bring their A game this year.
“It will be a good year,” said senior Bronson Warren. “We have a lot of passion and personality on the team this year. The team is going to have to play a lot of small ball, and it will be a fight to win each game but that’s what we’re about. I am most excited for the Saline game this season because they have a lot of talent.”
One highlighted game this season was against Saline High School where the team played hard but came up short. They play them again at home today, so the boys are ready for revenge. Another exciting game will be played against Monroe’s rivals, the Bedford Mules, on May 13. Also, Monroe will be playing St. Mary Catholic Central High School on May 9.
“This season will be good. I am excited to be an upperclassmen on the team, and I’m most excited for the Bedford game,” said senior Kevin Suttles.
The season will be filled with hard work, passion and the thrill to want to win each game. The team is excited to see what the upcoming season has to offer and will try their best.
