Chart-topping pop star Ariana Grande made the sixth stop of her highly anticipated “Honeymoon Tour” this past Saturday at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. The nearly sold out crowd waited in the cold till the doors opened at 7:30 pm.
The show had two openers, a DJ from Norway named “Cashmere Cat” and a boy band from London called “Rixton,” each acts doing a great job at hyping up the crowd for the main act.
Grande finally took the stage at 9 p.m. and dominated the energetic fans. Almost everyone was donning Grande’s iconic cat ears. Screams didn’t die down at all throughout the entire hour and a half show. She performed 18 of her most popular songs.
She opened the show with the summer hit “Bang Bang” that usually features British singer Jessie J and rapper Nicki Minaj, but Grande covered the whole thing all by herself. She also performed other hit songs of hers such as “Break Free,” “The Way,” “Love Me Harder,” and “Problem.”
Her show was completed with flashy outfits and differently themed sections. She rode out singing on a giant chandelier during “Right There,” and sang on a floating cloud for “Best Mistake.” Rapper and Detroit’s own (and Grande’s boyfriend) Big Sean features in “Best Mistake,” so he made a surprise appearance for both songs where he and Grande shared a hug and a kiss in front of the excited crowd.
Grande had a very large merchandise stand with lots to choose from such as posters, crop tops, hats, bracelets, and multiple different t-shirts. Special cat ears that lit up coordinated to each song of her set list that night, also sold for $40 and were controlled with an app.
The entertaining and action packed evening was definitely something for each person in that crowd to remember.
