Monroe High School will hold its annual open house and information night for eighth graders and their parents on Thursday, January 29. The event runs from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at MHS.
All eighth grade students from Monroe Middle School, students attending private or charter schools, or home-schooled students are invited to attend with their parents. It will begin with clubs like Art club, 4H, Drama club, Highlighter, and Pep club hosting an activities festival in the commons. This will last from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“Our goal is to show the incoming freshman what kind school spirit Monroe High has to offer. We want to get the kids involved as soon as possible so they can be excited to start their new venture here and feel comfortable showing their pride,” said junior Matthew Huntoon, President of Pep club.
Pep club will be promoting school spirit by handing out foam fingers, megaphones, and other MHS spirit wear, while chanting their favorite cheers.
From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., there will be sessions about various aspects of learning at MHS, many about programs that only MHS offers that no other local school does. Highlighted programs may include the direct college classes and the large number of virtual classes. Also at this time MHS Ignition mentors will be available to give tours of the building. They want the incoming students to feel comfortable with their future school.
“I want to make them feel comfortable and excited about coming to the high school, so they are not nervous on their first day,” said junior Morgan Zalewski.
MHS staff members will be on hand to answer any questions. For more information contact the assistant principals’ office at 734-265-3185.
