The Book of Life, out in theatres Oct. 31, came with an explosion of color and fun, which is enjoyable for the whole family. The Book of Life is an animation movie featuring the Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, a holiday in Mexico where families remember and celebrate their lost loved ones.
The Book of Life takes a different twist with the three main character, Maria
(Zoe Saldana), Hanolo (Diego Luna), and Joaquín (Channing Tatum), who become part of a wager to see which boy will marry the beautiful Maria, between two rulers, La Muerte the goddess of the Land of the Remembered, and Xibalba, the god of the Land of the Dead.
I personally believe this was the best animation film to pick its debut day on Halloween, for the simple purpose of the storyline the movie follows by being about the Day of the Dead. The animation itself brings vibrant colors and music to life while staying true to the idea of the holiday taking place. The movie also takes a twist on the regular love story of the damsel in distress waiting to be rescued. Maria is no damsel, she stays true to herself as both Manolo and Joaquín fight for her love.
This movie is a must-see for the whole family, and I fully recommend it to any of those who enjoy colorful animations, music, and a good storyline.
