Monroe High’s Generations of Sound recently attended MSVMA District Solo and Ensemble March 30 in Ypsilanti, Mich., where they received high ratings and made it to states. However, the group decided to decline the invitation to states, which is during spring break, due to the vacations of many of its students.
Sophomore Trevor Culverhouse said everyone was excited that they made it to states.
The musical group practiced for weeks and was happy to make it to states but thought it was unfortunate the group could not attend. Senior Bri Morgan said the best part of going to districts was listening to other choirs perform. Morgan also mentioned she will be planning on minoring in music in her future and this is her fourth year in choir.
The two songs, “Winkin, Blinkin” and “Nod along with Nellie Bligh,” that got the group to states could not have been sung without the unique blend of voices of both boys and girls.
The group also made it to states last year. Junior Michael Bloxson said he was excited that they made it to states and has been doing choir for three years. Michael mentioned if they were attending states, they would also sing two songs again.
Generations of Sound hopes to make it again to states next year and hopes they will be able to compete. The group not only has been to districts this year but has performed other concerts, along with two concerts at Monroe High School in the auditorium with the Women’s Chorus, Concert Choir, Expressions, and barbershop. Each group has numerous talented singers who would be more than qualified for states just like Generations of Sound.
